Protection Island Welcome



Protection Island is located in the harbour of Nanaimo, BC.  It is part of the City of Nanaimo with approximately 360 properties, each connected to municipal water and sewer. This neighbourhood offers peace and relaxation, with all city amenities just minutes away. Easily connect to other major cities thanks to nearby transportation hubs: Harbour Air Seaplanes, Helijet, BC Ferries and the Nanaimo Airport. The island offers several amenities, including the Dinghy Dock, co-op dock, boat launch ramp, fire station, community garden and community hall with a library and museum. There are also many organized events, art classes and drop-in sports.

  • Mud Bay Community Dock, operated by the Protection Island Neighbourhood Association (annual fee)

  • Privately owned docks (rates and availability vary)


How do I bring large items over to Protection? 

  • Island Supply delivers almost anything from town and also delivers groceries and takes away garbage / recycling

  • Wardill Marine provides transportation of large vehicles (construction machinery, moving van)

How do I get around on Protection?

  • By bike, golf cart, car/truck or with a wheelbarrow

What's there to do on Protection?
